Dear Friends and Members, Welcome, JUNE! A warm greeting to our new members and followers joining our mailing list and receiving our newsletter for the first time. We appreciate your membership and ongoing support through donations. With the recent government changes, we are reminded that OPAL, like so many not-for-profit organizations, relies on support from individuals who value our mission to support artists and the opportunities we provide, the benefits of art-making for all. Please consider making a donation, or if you or your business would like to sponsor an exhibition or give to a specific programming initiative, we would greatly appreciate it! If you haven’t been in to visit the Microcosm exhibit, there is still a week left to see the micro art on display, up through June 8th. We will be open today 1-4pm. We have sold many works and made many more visitors smile. You can start a micro art collection like so many have through this exhibition.
It’s summer in the studio and we have more class offerings for adults than ever before, plus a line-up of unique single-day workshops that offer a mini vacation for makers. Tickets are now on sale for HOUSE of OPAL, our Fall Fundraiser.

Celebrate pride month, ethnic identity and diverse traditions and cultures through the medium of fiber and especially hair. This open call judged exhibition will highlight works focused on how the fiber we all produce is able to portray an individual’s identity. Explorations of how fiber can be used to reflect the interweaving of community while still representing individuality, artifice, facade, pride, protection or disguise are all welcome interpretations and valid explorations during Pride month. All media welcome, made of or depicting hair.
Judge: Shanelle Harrison ● Limit of 2 submissions per artist. Submission fee: Art Member - 1st work - $25., 2nd work $15.
Non Member - 1st work - $35., 2nd work $20. Important Dates Drop off work: June 7 & 8

OPAL recognizes that the region we now call Chicago and Oak Park was the traditional homeland of many Indigenous nations,
