Awaken creativity. Strengthen your seeing. Building a lasting connection between hand, mind, and heart through the simplicity and elegance of line. In this mindful drawing workshop, you will explore how line alone—without shading or complex techniques—can express your form, movement, energy, and emotion. Whether you’re new to drawing, returning after a break, or looking to deepen your creative flow, this course offers a clear, step-by-step foundation on how to draw with greater confidence and clarity.
Sunday, November 2nd, 2pm - 4pm

Come learn how to invent your own cartoon character and build someone from the ground up—someone silly, cool, wild, or totally one-of-a-kind! In this fun, hands-on workshop, you’ll spend 2 hours designing a cartoon character from scratch using simple shapes, bold lines, color, exaggerated features, clothing, and your own imagination.
Saturday, November 15th, 12pm - 4pm
with Alexandra Blom
Explore this oldest form of printmaking by carving and printing your own linoleum blocks. This introduction will give students a chance to learn the process of relief printing from start to finish through demonstration, instruction, and guided hands-on exercises with a focus on tools, materials, and technique. Students will then take what they have learned to complete a self-guided image for printing by hand or on the press. This workshop will provide participants with the basis for further exploration of the process at home or in upcoming sessions at OPAL.
Saturday, November 22nd, 10am - 1pm
with Mami Takahashi
Discover the art and philosophy of Kintsugi — the Japanese practice of repairing broken pottery with gold — in this all-level, hands-on workshop.
In this 3-hour session, students will learn and apply the modern Kintsugi method using food-safe adhesive, epoxy putty, and golden finish. The technique is safe for beginners and designed to make the centuries-old practice accessible in a single-day format. Rather than erasing damage, Kintsugi highlights each crack as part of an object’s unique story — inviting us to reflect on beauty, imperfection, and transformation.
Saturday, November 29th, 10am - 4pm
with Karen Sugay
Participants will create a collage of an owl in nature using reclaimed wallpapers, fabrics, buttons, etc. Participants will create a composition sketch and color palette, select some materials, and begin creating the background in the morning. The afternoon will be devoted to creating the owl using one of the patterns provided, putting it all together, and sharing it with the group. Participants may not be done with their piece, and that’s ok! Good art can’t be rushed!
