Oak Park Art League Teaching Artist Agreement
The Oak Park Art League's mission is to provide access to art education in all visual art disciplines so that artists of all ages may refine their creative voice in our studios and galleries.
Professional Standards
Teaching artists represent the Oak Park Art League and are expected to:
• Arrive at least 15 minutes before class
• Be prepared with content and materials for each session
• Provide a positive, respectful learning environment
• Clean classroom and OPAL materials after each class
• Remain until the last student has left (or been picked up for minors)
• Never be alone in a room with a minor
Prohibited Conduct
The following behaviors may result in immediate dismissal:
• Disclosure of confidential information
• Falsification of invoices or records
• Theft of OPAL or student property
• Alcohol or drug use on premises
• Weapons on premises
• Discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin,
age, disability, or marital status
Class Management
Enrollment & Cancellations
• Minimum enrollment: 3 students (unless pre-approved)
• OPAL cancels low-enrollment classes 3 days before start date
• Verify all students are on the approved roster
• Report student absences to the Executive Director at session end
Instructor Absences
If unable to teach, you must arrange a makeup session (coordinated with OPAL and students)
or find an approved substitute.
Weather Closures
• Children's classes follow District 97 school closure policies for weather emergencies.
• In the case of extreme weather cancellation, the class may be made up at a later date agreed
upon with OPAL Staff.
Compensation
• Adult classes: 60% of advertised member price (regardless of attendance)
• Youth classes: 70% of advertised member price (to cover consumable materials)
• Payment timing: Between weeks 3-4 of sessions, or upon conclusion of workshops/camps
• Payment method: Zelle (preferred) or check
• Tax forms: W-9 required on file; 1099-MISC issued for income over $600
Note: OPAL does not withhold taxes. You are responsible for your own tax obligations as an
independent contractor.
Additional Requirements
• Background checks may be required, especially for instructors teaching minors
(contractor pays associated costs)
• OPAL reserves the right to modify policies and dismiss any teaching artist at any time
