Rather than call this a workshop, this is a no-pressure, loosely structured day of creating a solid inventory of collage papers that you want to make to suit your style and needs for future artwork. The instructor will do a demo of several different ways to approach dyeing, staining, making marks, stamping, rubbing (from nature and from templates), stenciling, painting, and creating textures on a variety of papers, cheese cloth, raw canvas, and other materials. Then you spend three hours making your own papers using materials of your choice, using your own marks, paints, and ideas. The end result will be a collection of papers that already have your imprint on them, ready to use in paintings and mixed media pieces.
Instructor will provide a lot of different papers and other materials for the different techniques. Participants should bring your own acrylic paints, brushes, paper towels or rags, pencils, non-water soluble markers, sketchbook weight papers, and any other papers and fabrics you want to work with. Feel free to bring other mark making tools you have, stamps, stencils and organic materials you want to try out. We will be dyeing and staining papers, which will get messy, so bring gloves and an apron if you want some extra protection. We will be observing social distancing, so bring a mask too.
