Saturday, November 15th, 12:00pm - 4:00pm
with Alexandra Blom
Explore this oldest form of printmaking by carving and printing your own linoleum blocks. This introduction will give students a chance to learn the process of relief printing from start to finish through demonstration, instruction, and guided hands-on exercises with a focus on tools, materials, and technique. Students will then take what they have learned to complete a self-guided image for printing by hand or on the press. This workshop will provide participants with the basis for further exploration of the process at home or in upcoming sessions at OPAL.

About the instructor:
Alexandra Blom fell in love with the process of printmaking as a freelance designer producing gig posters in the Chicago music scene and has since shown her work in the Chicago area at the Brushwood Center, Angelica Kauffman Gallery, Chicago Printmakers Collaborative, NEIU Fine Arts Center, WomanMade, and Second State Press in Philadelphia. She served the Chicago Printers Guild for five years as president of the board and continues a 20-year practice primarily in serigraphy (screenprinting) and relief.
