Fall 1 - Variations on Oil and Cold Wax Mediums

This course will focus on demos and the application of oil and cold wax onto various surfaces / substrates. Throughout the course, students will become familiar with the mixing ratio of oil to cold wax for painting on substrates. They will understand what substrates or surfaces work best with oil and cold wax applications for best results, in addition to applying simple underpainting techniques for oil and cold wax applications. Ultimately, students will familiarize themselves with basic tools and oil paint to complete an oil and cold wax painting.

This class is designed to be repeated.

MATERIAL LIST

  • 3-4 oil paints or water-soluble oil paints

  • small container of Gamblin’s cold wax

  • medium, one bowl scraper/ squeegee, two palette knives, and one flat brush.
