MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE: Abstract Alternatives to Depicting Our World

  • Oak Park Art League 720 W. Chicago Ave. Oak Park IL. 60302 US (map)

Abstract Art comes in many forms from formal geometric simplicity to expressionism; from traditional materials to found assembled objects. The common thread running through this diverse category is the desire to depict more than what meets the eye, to go deeper than surface appearances.

Whether your art is inspired by the implications of quantum physics, metaphysics, spirituality, formal design or any combination we invite you to submit your abstract explorations of art to this national juried exhibition.

Exhibition Juror: Sheri Rush

  • Sheri Rush (b. Fort Worth, Texas) is a Chicago-based painter and sculptor whose work responds to the current world by considering the intersection of identity, landscape, and recollection. Rush’s work is process-driven and dwells on the tensions between abstraction and representation. It reflects on the current danger to the forest ecosystem while in awe of the spiritual power of the natural world.

Rush holds a BFA from Texas Christian University and an MFA from the University of Chicago. Recent exhibitions include Art Cake NY, McCormick Gallery, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Rockford Art Museum, Freeport Art Museum, Ralph Arnold Gallery, The Art Center Highland Park, Arc Gallery, Hofheimer Gallery, Mu Gallery, and James Baird Gallery in Newfoundland. She has also held solo shows at Hyde Park Art Center, Evanston Art Center, and Epiphany Center for the Arts. Recent awards include a funded residency to the Pouch Cove Foundation in Newfoundland. Rush is represented by McCormick Gallery.
